Successful Roundtable on the Integration and Inclusion of Ukrainian Displaced People in Sweden
On March 5, 2025, policymakers, researchers, and key stakeholders gathered at the Stockholm School of Economics for a roundtable discussion on the integration and inclusion of Ukrainian displaced people in Sweden. The event provided valuable insights into the progress made over the past three years and the challenges that remain.
The event began with a warm welcome from Kata Fredheim, Executive Vice President of Partnerships and Strategy, SSE Riga, Andrii Plakhotniuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Kingdom of Sweden, Vilde Hernes, Senior Researcher, Oslo Metropolitan University. They emphasized the importance of continued support and collaboration in assisting displaced Ukrainians in Sweden
Experts shared their perspectives on how Sweden has supported Ukrainian refugees since the start of the war. Panelists included Olle Hammar, Assistant Professor in Economics, Linnaeus University, Michal Myck, Director, Centre for Economic Analysis (CenEA), Liudmyla Lemrini, Head, Swedish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce in Scandinavia. The discussion highlighted the effectiveness of various support measures, as well as areas where further improvements are needed.
A second panel explored employment opportunities and challenges for displaced Ukrainians in Sweden. Panelists included Rebecka Brinch, Senior Lecturer, Stockholm University, Annika Sunden, Former Head of the Analysis Department, Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen), Maria Nordin, Galaxen, Alina Zubkovych, Head, Nordic Ukraine Forum (NUF), The discussion underscored the importance of education, training, and targeted policy interventions to enhance employment prospects.
The event concluded with reflections on policy recommendations, emphasizing the need for long-term strategies to ensure the successful integration of displaced individuals into Swedish society. The roundtable served as an important platform for knowledge exchange, reinforcing the commitment to supporting Ukrainian refugees in Sweden.
